Entry requirements
The requirements below describe the spring 2026 guide and need fresh confirmation for any later intake. This academic unit is not listed in the spring 2027 freshman recruitment table. The published foreign freshman route requires a foreign applicant with two foreign parents and graduation or expected graduation from a regular high school. Dual nationality, high-school qualifying examinations, home-schooling and cyber-education recognition are excluded under the guide. Prepare the signed application, financial-support affidavit and personal-information agreement, high-school diploma and transcript, family relationship or birth evidence, applicant and parent nationality evidence, passport, and applicable language certificate. Submit the online application and then the required documents by post or visit. Originals are required, with authenticated or notarised copies accepted under the stated conditions. Documents in another language need Korean or English translations; the guide specifies a translator confirmation form in certain cases. Academic authentication depends on the qualification and country, with separate Chinese vocational-school requirements. For Chinese family relationship evidence, the guide does not accept the household register alone and asks for the specified police or notarial relationship certificate. Language evidence must be valid at application and issued within two years. Conditional later submission of originals, final school documents or language scores follows the university’s deadlines. Financial evidence depends on residency and visa circumstances. The historical general reference is a bank balance over KRW 16,000,000, with over KRW 8,000,000 stated for the specified D-4 to D-2 case. Applicants in Korea are directed to their own Korean bank account; overseas applicants may use their own or a parent’s account under the published rules. The guide contains differing certificate timing notes, including an August date, so confirm the current amount, account holder and certificate window with the university. Assessment covers language proficiency, scholastic ability, and attitude and etiquette at 40, 40 and 20 points respectively. A total below 60 or an interview score below 24 leads to rejection. Interviews may use Korean or English; published arrangements include in-person assessment in Korea and phone or video interviews overseas, with department-specific performance tests where relevant. Confirm the current interview format, document deadlines, tuition and scholarship conditions. Admission does not guarantee a visa, funding, accommodation, professional registration or employment. For the Korean track, the published entry alternatives include TOPIK or TOPIK iBT Level 2 or higher, JBNU’s own Level 2 test with the specified recommendation, qualifying Korean Homeland Education, or completion at a Korean language education centre in Korea. The course-completion threshold is Level 4 for the general Korean route. Entrants with TOPIK Level 2 or the equivalent JBNU Level 2 must complete two semesters of JBNU’s Korean Language Programme immediately after admission; the guide excludes Namwon Glocal Campus from this requirement. For Korean-track graduation, the guide requires TOPIK Level 4. Without it, students in years three and four cannot register for more than 15 credits. Entry-language alternatives and the Namwon exemption from two language-study semesters do not establish a graduation-language exemption. The published first-year grouping is Natural Sciences Division 2. Your selected department or major is specified when you apply; the guide does not offer a free change of major on entering the second year. Confirm your curriculum and any later change-of-major rules. The guide states that its Korean version takes precedence if translations differ.
