Entry requirements
The requirements below describe the Fall 2026 guide; confirm the conditions for a future intake before applying. A Bachelor’s degree, expected Bachelor’s degree or a legally recognised equivalent is required. Prepare official academic transcripts with the GPA and grading scale, degree or expected-graduation evidence, English proficiency evidence, personal identification, a personal statement of up to 500 words and the required recommendation. Transcripts from all previous universities are required after a transfer. The guide requires documents in English; documents in other languages need English translations notarised or certified in the issuing country. Degree and transcript authentication depends on where you studied, with the specified Chinese education and degree reports for applicants who studied in China. Confirm the current authentication process before obtaining documents. Online applications use scanned documents; successful applicants must later submit the required originals. Recommendations must come directly from the recommender in English, with the prescribed sealed-envelope and signature requirements for physical letters. The guide accepts FedEx or DHL for international postal submissions. International applicants’ passports must have at least six months of validity. The guide states an admissions restriction for applicants who smoke; confirm its application before applying. The published English thresholds are TOEFL PBT 550, CBT 210 or iBT 80, TEPS 326, or IELTS 5.5. Scores must normally have been taken within two years before the application deadline; scores received after application are not accepted under this guide. The degree-study exemption names the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa; it is tied to obtaining or expecting a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree after studying there. Separate score-submission deferral conditions concern admissions-committee assessment, overseas government support or an overseas partner-school relationship, with submission required before requesting thesis defence. Confirm whether an exemption or deferral applies and which test editions are accepted for the next intake. Interviews are conducted in English, including video interviews for applicants overseas. The special-admission route is limited to the guide’s specified foreign applicants recommended by faculty or entrusted under an organisational agreement, requires Form 2 and excludes GCSP scholarships. Confirm the appropriate admission category and funding before applying.
