SUBJECT GUIDE

Psychology and social sciences

Psychology, sociology and social work study in Korea should be compared through the questions you want to investigate and the work you want to do. Academic research and preparation for professional practice need different checks, even when subject names sound related.

Identify your main line of enquiry

Read required modules to see whether the programme's emphasis matches your interests in individuals, social relationships or wider institutions. Compare the kinds of evidence and argument used in assignments. A broad social science title does not establish the depth available in your preferred topic.

Look closely at research training

Check how methods are taught and what preparation is expected in analysis, statistics or written research. Ask about the final dissertation or project and how supervision is organised. For a research route, connect your proposed question to the relevant department rather than starting with a university reputation.

Investigate practice separately

If the course includes placements or work with clients, confirm access, supervision and language requirements. Establish what the qualification means for your intended professional use instead of assuming an academic degree gives permission to practise. We help organise the academic comparison and the questions requiring institutional or professional confirmation.

What to check when comparing courses

  • Subject focus within compulsory and optional modules
  • Research methods, analysis and relevant prior study
  • Placement access and language used with service users
  • Final project, supervision and intended qualification use

Questions to shape your shortlist

  • Which human or social question would you like to explore?
  • Is your goal research or preparation for professional practice?
  • What analytical, written or practical experience do you already have?
